DECEMBER 2022 UPDATE 1

EXTRA MILE SCHOOL EXCELS:

In only its first year of sitting for the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE), national examinations, Extra Mile School was awarded the National Examination Awards (NEA) certificate for ‘Outstanding Performance’ in achieving the status of second best school in the whole of Sierra Leone. Our photo shows Mr. Wusu Kargbo (Deputy Principal) and Mr. Moses Conteh (In-Country Director) having received the certificate. Further to this accolade, one of Extra Mile’s pupils, Mr.Mohamed Jalloh (pictured with Moses), achieved best, overall, aggregate score in the whole of the Western Area for the WASSCE exams. A tribute to the very professional and hard-working teachers in the school as well as their pupils and ancillary assistants. All the Extra Mile Trustees are so proud of these first-year achievements and say a big thank you for these honours and hope that many more of these pupils from such disadvantaged backgrounds who show such amazing talent can be helped and supported by the charity and its school in the future.

Extra Mile is always looking for supporters who can donate even a small amount of money to help them provide this high quality education for free, to these very poor children.

This is our new Careers Programme which was conducted with support from the UK to create opportunities and guides for our WASSCE students to help them to their next stage. Activities include introduction to basic computer skills, creating and developing CV's and job applications and conducting practice interviews. Professionals will also be brought in to give motivational presentations. 6 students attended initially and found the course very rewarding.

SEPTEMBER 2021 UPDATE 1

Before the start of the new academic year, all staff took part in this week's training day with input from both local staff and some of the charity's trustees in the UK via Zoom.. Discussions were held on several matters, including child protection/safeguarding and resources management as well as planning of schemes of work and the teaching of new vocabulary in all subjects. The day was a very positive experience for all involved.
