NOVEMBER UPDATE
/The school received the results of the 17 students who took their BECE examinations in the summer. 13 of them completed BECE successfully and have now started their senior secondary education. This is a pass rate of 77%, compared to a national pass rate of 30% which is being reported in the country. We congratulate these 13 students and their families and we congratulate our wonderful teachers, without whom these successes would not be possible. The remaining 4 students missed completing their BECE, all very narrowly, and will continue their studies with us.
One of our trustees, Tim Feast, arrived safely in Sierra Leone on the 1st November. He left the airport in the middle of an enormous electrical storm, plus very heavy rain at a time which is supposed to be the dry season. His first day was spent touring the new facilities in the Phase 2 building programme, meeting staff from our own and partner schools and continuing the preparations for the first staff training day on Monday.
In addition to timetabled lessons the students’ curriculum is being enriched by activities such as an IT club, two evenings after school and with a football team, in which the girls play on occasions. Recently the students played a staff team, defeating them comprehensively 9-5. A re-match is threatened.
